Im down for vacation and my motor is turning very slow.tried 3 different battery s. Checked ground wires. Could the starter be bad? Any help would be great. Even bypassed the battery cables and went straight to motor with cables..

before you get a new starter make sure somethings not binding up your prop. also check for loose wires, grounds. if you bypassed the solenoid and went straight to the starter with 12 v with cables, it gotta be the starter. try whacking the darn thing.

Started it with rope.went out fishing and now it will start with key. Bypassed everything and put power to the starter and it still cranked slow.

Get a 1/2 wrench and some sand paper. Disconnect your battery. Pull ALL the wire connections one at a time, sand them and re-install tight. 90% of all starter problems are connection issues. While you are at it - pull the insulation back on your battery cables and look for green corrosion - if it's there it might be a good time to visit interstate battery and have new cables made.

A corroded positive and or ground will create super high resistance and rob power to the starter and the cables will actually get warm to hot.

Pay SPECIAL attention to the negative battery terminal where it attaches to the engine block. They are notorious for corrosion there. A lot of starters have been replaced-needlessly-due to that connection.

Funny thing is I start it withv the rope and run it for 2-3 hrs fishing it will start with key. I put it on the trailer and try it the next day it won't turn over.

I tried going straight to the starter and it still turns very slow. I guess this means the starter is shot? Only works after the motor runs for awhile. Guess the heat after running it has something to do with it.

Just found my problem. The positive cable was shot in a couple spots. Now my question what gauge wire should I get for a 12-13' run to the battery?
