Hi I am new to this board, and am having fuel enrichment valve problems on my 2000 Merc 150.

I repowered to the 150 from a 89 Blackmax 175. I used the original wiring harness with an adaptor kit to accomidate the pin/plug. The 150 will not start with out manualy pushing the FEV. The bulb is pumped up and hard. When I press in the key I do not hear a click, and won't start with full throttle in neutral. The only way it starts is by pushing the button on FEV. After that the motor runs like a top and I do not have to push the button the rest of the day.

My question is where to start on fixing this issue? Do I replace the FEV? Is it a difficult process? Is there a few things I should check before replacing?

Thanks

Sorry forgot to mention that it is a Merc 150 Classic Carb'ed motor. Any help is much appreciated!

Re: 2000 Merc 150 FEV problems

The enricher valve has 2 wires that go to a terminal block. There is a yellow with black tracer wire on that block. It should go to 12 v when you turn on the key and mash it. (enricher button) The other terminal should be grounded to engine frame.

If those conditions are true, and the valve doesn't click, the valve is bad. If not, troubleshoot the wiring.

hope it helps

Thanks John for the advise. I'll look into this. If the FEV does need to be replaced, is it an easy job?
