2000 merc 3.0l distributor location looks funny

i finally got my 2000 3.0l in time and now the distributor has the wires stretched hard. and the plugs from the coil are almost pointing toward the front of the engine. Did i install it wrong somehow or is this how it goes. when it is top dead center and i start the first plug wire it is about 11 oclock on the cap. please help real frustrated.

If you had the distributor out, you probably got the distributor back in one or two teeth off on the gear.
Turn the engine to #1 TDC on the compression stroke, then reset the distributor in with the rotor pointing to where you want #1 plug wire to be.
You may have to turn the oil pump shaft to line up with how the distributor shaft will be aligned.
