22P, My concern is if I reduce pitch I may gain more RPM but affect fuel economy and reduce speed.

Lowering your rpm doesn't save gas, it makes the motor work harder to keep going. Like trying to climb a hill in 5th gear instead of going to 3rd. The extra work will also shorten your motors life.

Think of it like this, if your in neutral the motor can be reved to 4K rpms and use very little gas. Do the same thing in gear and it uses much more fuel. So gear it down causes the motor to burn less for the same load.

Been awhile since I updated this post, I changed to a 21 pitch prop. I gained 150 or so RPM and didn't lose any speed. There really wasn't any noticeable gains or losses. I am going to keep the 22 pitch for a spare when I get it back from having the hub rebuilt. Damn rope in the bay.
