I am replacing the prop shaft in my 2000 Merc 25hp outboard. I am headed back together with everything. Does anybody know what the torque spec for the carrier housing is? Also when I pulled this a part I thought it was strange that there is a lock to keep the carrier from backing itself out. I have 3 differing opinions 1) the torque of the carrier is enough to hold it in, 2) it is left hand thread, that will keep it from backing out or 3) the o-ring and plate will help stop it from backing out. Are any of these correct?
