What does it mean when the timing tool will not allow me to start my boat?

normal distributor plug will start it right up, but timing tool will not!

is the wiring layout different than those show online?
Need help ASAP

The ECU sets the timing on TBI. Timing shunt is not needed. Check the manual.

I have something somewhere I will dig it up. But yes you need to set base timing (8 btdc) I have the same motor. Instructions say to start the motor and then jump the black/blackwhite terminals with a paperclip. I have not started it with the jumper already in. My issue today is when I put the jumper in my timing mark jumps around and is not steady. Let me see what I can find.

Just wondering how to jumper the terminals, cannot get anything into the back of the plug, and if you un-plug it , the motor dies...

thanks for your reply

It goes in the DLC connector at the front of the engine. between the black and the black/white wires. I also bought the plug in shunt that I am thinking you have. (Plugs into distributor and has an alligator clip wire on it) That does not work on this engine. Mine is now resting in the back of my toolbox. LOL

Is yours also throttle body injected, or EFI?
I know they are both a type of fuel injection, but you should get what I mean
