I am new to boating and recently purchased a 2000 Regal 1800 lsr with a 3.0 litre Volvo Penta engine.

When I went to tow it for the first time, it didn’t look like the lower unit was trimmed up enough.

In speaking with some people they spoke about a switch for trimming specific to trailering. I looked but couldn’t find that.

Based on some of the colour loss and patterns on the top of the lower end it appears it has been higher before? Any suggestions ?

Usually to tilt the drive up to trailer mode you need to push the up button a little harder to “click” into trailer mode. So trim it up as normal then press a little harder on the up button and it should kind of click a little & depress more causing the drive to tilt more until it stops.

Thanks for the information, I went and tried today but no luck. It appears there are lines across the top of the outdrive suggesting it can go hire for towing I just can’t find.

is there anyone else out there with a 2000 Regal boat that may be able to help?

This is a volvo function, not a Regal function. Typically with outdrives, there is trim that you adjust while cruising, but this doesn't trim up the entire range. It keeps it in a safe operating range so you don't ruin the u-joints in your outdrive. There is also a trailering/tilt function that raises it above the trim limit for launching, retrieving, and towing. I am not familiar with your specific outdrive and control system. If you post in in the Volvo forum, you are more likely to get a much more specific response. A picture of your trim control would also help.

There is often a second switch for trailer mode. It's often lower down or next to the control lever. Sometimes it's mounted elsewhere such as on the dash or above the swim platform
