I need to replace the u-joints on a 2000 VP DP-SM drive and I am aware that Volvo says you cannot replace just the u-joints- the entire shaft needs to be replaced.

I have searched and cannot locate any solid conclusions on this.

Is it possible to replace just the u-joints?

Thanks

Good point!

I know that you always recommend using OEM parts and I can certainly respect that, but I wonder if there is an alternative such as a Spicer # or something else that may be more common to the parts world.

Re: 2000 VP DP-SM U-Joints

Thanks again for your help.

I installed the Neapco 1-0005 and they fit perfectly.

I am afraid that I may have replaced them for no reason. The originals moved smoothly with no sign of problems. I had gotten some water in through a Sierra made bellows kit 2 years ago and replaced the gimbal this past year but not the joints.

I noticed at full turn the drive made a bit of noise (humming) that I assumed was the u-joints yelling at me, but I guess it was just "normal".

The Neapco's have a zerk fitting in the end cap and I plan to remove that after I grease them and install a plug as I am not sure on the clearance within the bellows.
