Offer them 7000 for it! Gives you room for a new engine and still a good deal.I bet they jump on it.You know they feel like dummys having to tell you the block is cracked after listing it on Ebay..

So we struck a deal and I pick her up tomorrow.
I am going to have a million questions, I hope you guys are up to the task.
Let me give you my short list, hahahaaaa
I am really considering buying a core and having it rebuilt using some aftermarket parts.(either that or a GM crate motor) I was never thrilled with GM's valve springs, so I thought I would have the heads redone, 3 angle valve job, deck them, and install some aftermarket valve springs, cam and lifters. I will keep the cam specs around the same as stock but I know these motors can perk up without losing bottom or top end. Are there after market exhaust manifolds?
I am clueless as what to expect when I pull the motor. Curious might be the better term. While this motor is out, what should I replace back there? I hear talk of gimball bearings and u-joints, transom seal, exhaust bellows etccc.
Is there a HP/torque limit on the penta sx?

Tail_Gunner you got me really excited about this boat, this quote made me day dream for about an hour..

""it's 18.6 feet long and a 8 foot beam on a 20 degree dead rise hull and and draft's 18" of water, it will cut a 2 foot chop at 40mph better than a 20 foot glasstron or rinker, i have tried them all.""

Is there a book I can get for my specific model or my specific I/O setup?
I really think this is going to be a good thing. I will feel SOOO much more comfortable knowing exactly the way things are all put together in boat so I can make emergency repairs on a whim. And a new motor for the same price i was going to pay for it with a used one.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. I will take some pics of the cracked block and kind of document my lil project. Everyone enjoys pictures. :)

You should not have any problem running this boat any where on the Colorado from the Parker strip to Lake Mead. Anything below the Parker bridge will depend on the water level. I suspect that there will be alot of cracked blocks here in the Southwest because of that record cold snap we had in Jan.
Good luck with your new baby.

Kewl dude. Agree on below Parker and unless you know your way around just forget it for now.

I'd say if you keep her stock you'll get her in the water quicker. Get a long block and leave the fuel system as is . . . Here's some manifolds for you: www dot eddie marine dot com /cart/catalog.asp?CategoryID=107&CategoryName=Exhaust%2DEMI+Thunder+

BTW, do we need to have a little talk about my signature? If you stop by the house on the way home I'll take that thing off for you . . . :D

I am a bit jealous here, you have the motor to play with, im running 56 mph with a 4 blade ss and 215 v6. Id guess if i had a 350 to charm id be in hog heaven as far as speed, but save some dough to upgrade here cosmetically she's a beautifully built boat, the mfg did nothing for her look's at all. Very soon i will post a thread on a few paint upgrades, if you look close at the hull it's full of graceful line's that have been left undone, lot's of sculpturing there.

Crusing at 45 mph is pretty damm fast and lighting it up at 60 plus is another thing, If it were me id go with the 5.0 if she's got tbi and putting the right prop's on there, by the way i have a 22 pitch 4 blade that should take you to 58-59 mph and pull stump's out of the lake bottom...... congrat's
