I have new gas and a full bottle of ringfree in the tank and everything rides fine until I hit high rpm's. The boat will have major throttle hesistation (and make a loud rpm loss sound)and if I leave it wide open it will eventually stall out, if I pull back on the throttle it will be fine (I did notice the rpm's doesn't change at all during the hesistation issues) I just had new plugs installed last winter. I noticed when it bogged down that the gas tank bulb was not tight, that leads me to think it's a fuel pump issue? Any help would be appreciated before I take it to the dealer.

when was the last correct service at a dealer? the schedule for what your problem most likly is is a 200 hour OR annual maint. its most likly going to be a clogged VST or medium pressure filter, or both. check all the filters and after that it will start requireing a service manual and some test equipment. the fuel primer bulb will not stay hard, ever. its no worries unless its actually collapsing.

I had it winterized in the fall of 2004, I had them check everything and they gave it a clean bill of health. I did have this problem late last year as well but thought it might have been sparkplug problems so I had them replaced during the winterizing.

"its most likly going to be a clogged VST or medium pressure filter, or both"<br /><br />Can these be checked by a novice tech - ie - ME?<br /><br />Can these 2 filters be easiliy accessed on the motor or do they require removing other parts? It's a pain to get my boat to the dealer so I'm asking if checking the 2 mentioned filters is something I could do myself..

with a good service manual and some tools its easy. without it its tough. you will need the fuel line clip cause ya have to cut the old one off at the medium pressure filter. you have to know how to dissconect the filter from the line. you will need tool snap on ya3080 or merc 91-803146t to assemble the new clip. DO NOT use standard worm clamps,. they will fail with use. if it comes back with a standard hose clamp immediatly call you yamaha consumer hotline . makes sure you explain a standard clamp on a medium or high prewssure line. I work with a place thats thats all the techs use. I hope no one dies cause they wont buy the tool. and yes I do own the tool and the clips are about 8 dollars a pop. the tool is less than 40 dollars so its sensless not to have it.

if you read through most my other posts I always reccomend tossing the low pressure pumps at 3 year intravels, I forgot it on this one . did they service the vapor seperator while they had it ?

I told them to take a peek at it, total price with labor is $500, sound about fair?
