rod and others,

My Yamaha is occasionally cutting out but only at certain times, these times are when the motor is spinning at 3800 to 4000 and only when we're running in steep seas. We'll come over a steep swell 3 to 5 foot and as the bow comes over the swell and drops to the bottom of the trough the engine will cut very briefly and then kick right back in.

Any thoughts?

check your fuel rail pressue. if the trash is sloshing in the VST it may do that, also could be a loose battery connection.

I had the same exact problem. It was a clogged VST filter. I mean EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

rod,

The engine is still cutting out at times in rough weather, what's involved in checking the VST filter?

I'm two weeks out to see the mechanic to have it looked at, but if I can check the filter myself I'll do it!

remove the tank from the block then undo the phillips headed screws and seperate the tank lower half, have a new filter and oring on hand and reassemble. I can do it in 30 min without removing any lines.
