I am having troubles with my motor. At first I was just having intermittent problems with it spittering and sputtering being that sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldnt do it at all throughout the day but it was always just a matter of time when it would do it next. It also seemed like it did it worse as the day went on and as you ran it some and it got warmer but you could always start it up over and over and maybe even choke it and it would always come out of it and it's been like that since late february. Myself I changed the primer bulb, fuel filter, ran sea foam and evinrude/johnson fuel system cleaner through it and now always use sta-bil marine formula, replaced starting battery, new plugs, and its on a ranger boat so i took anti-siphon valves out of both gas tanks and none of that ever fixed it. My dad and I had mixed opinions on what was wrong so i went with my opinion and replaced 3 carb bowls that were cracked, warped and leaking and also had them rebuilt and this was done at a certified shop whom is highly respected in this area and always been good to me. It would always run this whole time and get up to 5800 rpm and 60-65 mph no problems at all just had a hiccup when it would spit and sputter and not idle sometimes and die. I got it back from him and took it out and it did start quicker, ran and idled smoother but when you give it gas to holeshot it will act like its perfect and then just quit going at 3000-3500 rpm range and just stay there then let off gas and then die but then will fire right back up and idle great again. Mechanic told me to unhook temp sensors to disable slow mode and see what happens and it still did it so his opinion was the same as my dads which was the power pack. Dad and I ordered a new cdi electronics power pack and put it in and still the same problem so I am stumped. I took it out the day before I took it to the shop and it ran great other than one spit and sputter moment then to the shop the next morning for 3 new carb bowls and 3 rebuild kits and he said thats all he done and then magically quit running and im pretty upset. I know anything can go bad at any moment but this seems kinda ironic and my opinion is something wrong with 1 of those 3 carbs when he put it back together as anyone can make mistakes. Is that possible? At idle spark test and everything checks out, fuel test was good and compression great. My only guess would be stator or ignition coils? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
