I am debating upgrading to a 30hp 2-stroke yamaha (2001)from my current 20hp 2-stroke (1992). The 30 hp weighs approximately 50 lbs more than the current 20 hp. It will be mounted on a 16' open hull, deep 'V' aluminum. I currently experience 'lack of horsepower' with two guys and all the fishing gear that goes along.

What does the board think of the triple cylinder, triple carb 30hp?.

As I am new to boating, I would appreciate any comments, opinions or suggestions you may have.

Re: 2001 2-stroke Yamaha 30hp question

I have a 94 30 hp, 3 cylinder. It's been flawless in the last 2 years. Idles pretty quiet and doesn't smoke too bad. I have mine on a V, 16ft and can get about 28 mph. I believe they have not changed very much...if at all in the last several years.
I would give it an A for an overall grade.
Dman
