2001 200HP Merc Opti Oil pump issues?

Just had the boat out for the first time this year and after cruising beautifully for about 2 hours, I shut it down for about an hour and then after restarting, my smart gauge alarm went off and read "Reserve, oil 100%". Checked oil resevoir and it was nearly full, reserve tank also nearly full. Is this an indication that the oil pump is bad? Thanks for any info.

The tank on the motor has to be full not "nearly" full. With the motor close to vertical and idling, open the oil tank cap until it overflows and then replace cap.

My guess is that your system is working correctly but because the upper oil tank is not full it's giving you this message. Maybe an expert will give you the answer.
