Hi,

I recently purchased a boat with a 25hp Merc. According to the previous owner the motor had some sort of governing device that wouldn't allow it to go over 4900 rpm... I haven't been ably to verify this and was wondering if he might have been confusing that with the rev limiter that is supposed to protect the motor from excessive RPM.

Also the motor is a pull start, but I want to add a tach to it. I found somthing called a Tiny Tach http://www.tinytach.com/

I was wondering if there was anything else I could do or is this my best bet?

Thanks in advance for any info on these issues...

iMac

Thats strange...that motor is supposed to tach 6000 RPM just to put out 25 HP.....Tiny tach works great...got one too on my 40 HP.

Call the factory...they will make you one to special order with longer wires. Mine was a Mercury product called Service Monitor made for Mercury by Tiny Tack and I had to locate the special shielded wire and special micro connectors to make mine work since from Mercury It only has 6' wires. You will have to wrap the wires around the no. 1 plug wire about 7 times though for it to work. Ended up costing me twice as much if I would have bought it direct from Tiny Tach. Works great though, mine has total hours when the engine is off.
