Just wondering if I will require a special tool to remove the output shaft carrier on this 2001 9.9 merc 2 stroke, its leaking gear oil .......I will be on my way to library tomorrow for a manual thks .......Leo

Simple answer is 'Yes, you need a special tool'. The good news is that you already own it.... It's the prop thrust washer.... Take the prop off, take the thrust washer off and remove the stainless cover. Turn it around and put it back on.... Special tool installed and ready for action

AC I dont see anything that will fit over the carrier to turn it out/ the inner thrust washer is solid , besides the carrier is way bigger in diameter , am i missin something ? any pic?

Oops! I just checked a 9.9 and you're right, no tool built into the thruster washer... Got confused with the 20/25 engines. My bad...:redface::redface:

But you do still need a special tool to remove the bearing carrier. If you downloaded the manual it will tell you the part number of the tools...

Well the library didnt have any newer model manuals available, Does anybody know the part number for, or if there is a special tool for removing the bearing carrier? thks Leo
