I am considering making a 250 mile trip, to purchase (if it is as described when I get there) and bring back a Pontoon houseboat with a 2001 90Hp Johnson, that is listed as 0 hours. I emailed question why the 1997 pontoon has a 2001 motor with 0 hours, and was advised the boat had been in storage since the new motor was put on the 1997 pontoon. I know that along in there sometime there was a period during the OMC bankrupcy that there was no warranty backup, and advise was a no-no to purchase OMC products. Is anyone wise to the 2001 90HP as to the adviseability of purchasing one, is it a good motor? As far as I know, this craft is in the hands of an individual, and not a dealer. The add is copied below--------->

1997 33' Crest Moonlighter Houseboat
Vehicle Description

1997 33' Crest Moonlighter Houseboat. This boat is equipped with a 2001 90 HP Johnson with 0 hours. Boat comes with a shower, head, microwave, and refrigerator. Trailer included. Perfect boat for spending the weekend on the lake. No phones to answer. A whole lot of boat for the money. Title is clear. Boat has been rarely used and kept in dry storage. AM/FM Stereo Cassette with indoor and outdoor speakers. Sleeps 8 comfortably. Has a sun deck on top.

Vehicle Condition

Boat in excellent operating condition!!!! One outside cushion has sun cracks. Interior in great shape.

<-----I think I have to have this boat, if a Ford F150 will pull, launch, and retrieve it from the lake, I will not need my pickup slide incamper. :D :D :D :D :D

If its like new condition and you check it out why not? I think there might be some concerns with that year but hey i would trade a force for it.

As long as it's not a Ficht system motor, I'd certainly consider buying it. My other questions to the owner would be on how it was prepared to be stored for two years. Is it really 0 hours or did he run it a little and store it with fuel in carbs, etc. A good test run would be required if you get serious about buying it. Could turn out to be a good deal. I have friends with these era motors [non-Ficht] and they havn't had any problems.

What is the FICHT system, and is it on this particular engine, or is it on some of the 2001 90's but not all. What is the problem with this FICHT system? I aim to email seller, and inquire if I come with the money will it be possible to see it operate in the water. The outfit has been listed on e-bay twice, the first time the winning bid went a little over the selling price, but for some reason the sale was not consumated, and on the relist, the winning bid did not make the reserve. I do want this outfit, but that is a lot of money to part with. I thank all in advance for any information on this FICHT system, and info as to the possibility of the 2001 90HP being one (second and third opinions are nice too) as I am perfectly ignorant on the system.

FICHT was OMC's fuel injection system that had many problems. If the motor has a carburator, then it's not a FICHT. After some thought, I don't believe they made any 90 HP's with it.

If it's a 2001 it was built under lincense by Bombardier motor corp. just has the Johnson name plates on it . I have a 01 115 Johnson Ocean Pro no problems! runs STRONG and gets excellent fuel mileage ;) Rudes are FICHT motors, Johnsons are Carb motors
