2001 90 hp merc starter problem

last time i ran my engine, the pinion gear on the starter got stuck up on the flywheel. the engine did not stall, the fly wheel continued to spin and grinded the small gear on the starter so that it wont catch the flywheel anymore to crank the motor. i was wondering if someone could give me instruction on how to take that gear off and replace it. also could i get that part from a local marina or would i have to order it from mercury.

any help would be appreciated.
