Started having issues with Ski bogging down, re-start, bogging down, re-start until battery dies. Finally took it to shop and mech said rear cylinder had no (or bad) compression. He suggested new re-built engine with warranty. He orders engine, sets it in. Engine, parts and labor $2000.00.

I bought it used summer of 2012. Worked perfectly until now.

BTW, still cranks easily and will go a 100 yards or so and quits, like getting no gas and excessive white smoke.

Fix it or let it go?

Thanks

UpDate.

Checked compression myself. 120 on front cyl and -0- on back cyl. Also has fuel in bildge.

Is this thing worth more than scrap?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, David

you'll probably have better luck on another forum. try pwctoday.com

i probably wouldn't call the ski scrap. you really need to figure out what happened to cause the loss of compression. i can't remember off the top of my head if your ski has power valves. if so, they can drop into the cylinder. since those carbs are hard to get to, they aren't serviced regularly. you can google "cajundude". he used to have lots of vids up about tearing into a GPR.

are you sure its fuel in the hull? another common failure is for the oil line to pop off. bottom line, pull the exhaust, pull the head and cylinder and pull the carbs. look at all the lines and make sure they were all attached. basically, you are doing an autopsy to figure out what went wrong. you have to fix that before you fix anything else. it really isn't hard and those motors are very common. go to forum i mentioned above and you'll see plenty of folks who have worked on those motors. good luck

Thanks for the info "Jafo9". Watercraft mechanic just not my bag of tea.

I'll keep digging though. My comp test seems to confirm what boat mech said.
"0" compression usually a bad sign?
