Hello again

Im looking into getting myself a new boat and I found a nice hull and it has a 2001 Johnson 115 Faststrike on it. I started doing some research and found that Johnson and OMC had started to have problem near their end.

I wanted to know is this a dependable motor given its been mantained and even compression and is there parts still available if so?

Is this part of the FITCH years that are bad?

Guy said that it had this stuff done to it but didnt mention compression...
? New wiring harness 2009
? New power pack 2009
? New water pump 2009
? New plugs and fuel filter twice a season
? New lower unit oil every year

And what is the history behind Johnson,OMC,and Evinrude and how are they all linked together some how?

Thanks,
DamianJP

The Fast Strike is not a Ficht.

The engine is nine years old, if it's gone this long, chances are it will continue to go.

If compression is good, I wouldn't be afraid of it.

Outboard Marine Corp. (out of biz in 2001) was the parent comapny for Johnson/Evinrude since the mid 1900's.

Hello DJ

Thanks for the info!

Now were there any problems related to the Faststrike motors?

And what should the compression be?

Thanks,

Problems were related to some early fuel injection models, ficht models.

Compression should be above 100psi but more important that it be even and within 15psi of each other. Within 5 psi is perfect.
