Took my boat out over the weekend. Boat ran perfectly Fine all day Saturday. Sunday morning, put the boat in the water, cranked fine, and shortly after leaving the dock, it cut off on me. After priming the bulb, the motor started, ran for about 10 seconds and shut off again. Had someone keep squeezing the primer bulb in order to keep the motor running. Was trying to get back to the landing, then the "no oil" light came on. Shut the boat off, started it back up, and the light went off. Run it for about another minute and the light came back on. Kept doing this until we got to the landing.

I pulled the fuel lines off where they seperate to go to the fuel rails for the carbs, and was not getting and fuel from the point unless I squeezed the primer bulb. Have also checked to make sure there were no restrictions in the fuel lines.

I'm guessing that my fuel pump or the VRO pump has gone out, but I would like any suggestions of any other possible things to check before I replace any of these.

If the engine would keep running by sqeezing the bulb, a pump failure is the first thought. Have you checked parts over for any leakage under the hood?

Re: 2001 Johnson 90 Fuel Problems

I have checked for leaks from the tank to the carbs and have not found any. Is the VRO pump the only part that draws the fuel? What is the purpose of the vapor pump? Is the VRO Difficult to rebuild? My concern about just rebuilding it is that the "no oil" light was coming on, but havent had any problems with that either before. Just dont want to rebuild the VRO and it be something electronic on it. Is there any tests to check that out?
