I'm looking at buying a 2001 lowe fm165 sea nymph with a 2 stroke merc 50HP for $4k, and was wondering if anyone had opinions on this boat? I plan on mainly doing fishing with one other person, but occasionally I'll have 3 in the boat or 2 in and 1 on a tube. I'm not looking for crazy speed on the tube, just enough power to get around the lake and have some fun.
Also, anything in particular that I should check out before buying? My current checklist includes:
1. In-water test for leaks, motor performance and general handling
2. compression on cylinders (looking for less than 10% dif between cylinders)
3. function of electronics
4. shape of trailer and tires
The owners mentioned that they had the dealer remove the oil injection (dealer recommended) after having problems with it. I'm fine with it as I prefer to mix and not worry. However, I'm wondering how they new they had a problem with the oil injection - is there a warning light/horn, or am I looking at scorched pistons? Will the compression test pick up any issues? They also mentioned that they had taken the boat back to the factory after finding a leak, and it was repaired under warranty.
