Anyone tried and/or have faith in this product http://www.westmarine.com/1/3/starbrite-ez-to-store-ez-to-start-additive-stabilizer ? The updated procedure by Merc calls for some crazy concoction mixed in an outboard tank hooked up to the fuel lines for fogging the engine. I know I'll get some response about doing it by the book, but this just seems over the top to me. I know one shop here that uses it exclusively and others that still use fogging spray. I've read that the fogging spray on an EFI will eventually damage the knock sensor, etc. The procedures for running AF through the engine via the flush kits seems to have become a widely accepted practice, so not something like this eventually becoming accepted practice? I may double the suggested dosage (or slightly less) to be a little safer.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but everytime time I enter a keyword to search the forum on it tells me no results found. So I apologize for the duplicate post if it's already been asked. I would think oil and fog were difficult words to search on.

The reason it seems over the top to you is because you don't understand WHY Merc says to do it that way.
Assuming you have an MPI, the way the manifold is designed if you spray fogging oil into the throttle body, it will probably not make it to the cylinders, but get trapped in the pockets inside the manifold. Therefore you accomplished nothing.

As far as running a raw water cooled engine with antifreeze, better read this thread.

Just because others do things, or places sell things, doesn't make it the right thing to do.

You're right, I don't understand it completely. So I come in search of knowlege. :D I always thought you either had a carb or EFI. I still don't understand the differnces between, "EFI's." I don't think mine is an MPI. The cover says digital EFI, but maybe you can explain that to me.

For the record...I do NOT use the flush kits. I do the AF the old fashioned way. I have just been noticing that the past two seasons more people have been posting about the kits than ever before. I do it for the same reasons as scipper in that thread.

That being said, I am looking for factual information on why this would or would not work. I can read the sales literature all day, but it doesn't really tell me anything other than buy it. Why is it any better to hook the solution up to a fuel line than just dumping into the gas tank? What are the mechinics of it all? Yeah, I'm a shade tree mechaninc, but I do want to learn how it works and not opinions, without quitting my day job and going to mechanics school.
