Hello all,
I was hoping someone could help me out here. I just recently repowered my boat and purchased a used 2001 Merc 60hp 4Stk (non-EFI) Model # 60ELHPT and the previous seller did not really have any controls coming out of the motor except the OEM Quicksilver Ignition/Alarm box and a power trim wire. There was no RPM tach previously installed, thus no wire harness for it.
I would like to install a RPM tach (I should say use my old existing one that I unhooked) on my boat but I’m not sure exactly how to hook this up? I’ve read numerous forums and still stumped but I think I’m getting real close…. Just not sure where/how to hook this up.
Here’s the situation/condition:
I removed my old ’98 Johnson 40hp 2stk tiller along with the control wires/harness that went to my gauges and I have the old RPM gauge still in place and would like to reuse it. Looking at back or RPM tach and from reading info online, I set it to 6P (6 Pulse) for my Merc 4stk motor. The ground (black) wire is still hooked up in series to my other toggles/gauges. I have a (Gray wire) going to my “Signal” post and a (Purple wire) going to my “Ignition” post. These two wires ran with the control wire/harness bundle separately that I removed off my old Johnson and they hooked up to what looked like a buss bar/control point on the Johnson. I’m trying to figure out where to hook these two wires (Purple and Gray) to my Merc without having to buy a wire harness. I guess I don’t know where exactly the Ignition hookup point is or the Signal point is on the Merc motor?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
