I just bought this boat its been sitting for the last 2 years it has less then 50hrs on the whole rig .... Its a 2001 Tracker Targa v18wt ... i got it for a unheard of deal ive fished out of this boat about 5 times it was my friends boat his father passed 2 years ago and he doesn't want to fish anymore .
He ran the motor out of gas and filled the oiled tank up and threw stabil in the gas tank.
Well im going to drain all the fluids and plugs and threw a new water pump on it .
The problem im thinking about is should i flush the oil injection system ?
I can grab a 6gal tank and run it on 50:1 while the oil injection pumps the cleaner threw it ? (sea foam & gas )
Ive heard this motors are kinda funky with the 2+2 it idles on 2cyls below 1800 rpms and switchs to 4 above 1800 but this motor ran great when it was stored 2-years ago.... 50mph on a 18ft boat with gear and 3 heavy weight guys down the Missouri River.
Is there anything i should do ? do you think Gas& Sea-foam could hurt the oil injection pump for a short time to flush out any oil that's gunked up ... i will be switching to quick silver oil i seen a jug of the walmart oil in the boat ... again i know some people like the walmart oil but for my self ill spend the xta dollars for the grey bottle and throw the blue bottle away. I would by pass the system if i could ... i just dont know much about mercs ive removed both oil injection setups on my evinrude's i will never trust them on any motor but until i figure out how to remove it off this merc ill make sure the system is clean and working before i take it to the river and lean on it.
Im not a merc guy ive never owned one only Evinrude since my first boat.
I will be switching this motor out for a 150 e-tec after this year and i might throw a jet lower on this motor for a shallow runner.
