Hey everyone, I am having some issues with my outboard and was hoping somebody here might be able to help me. The issue at hand is I can take my boat out on the water and putt up to about 10 mph without issue, after that the engine just sputter and dies. Now I know the usual things to check, the bulb gets hard, no air in the fuel lines, no water in gas, fuel filter is clean. I even pulled the bowl off the carb and it is honestly the cleanest 17 year old carb ive ever seen. Now the interesting thing is it acts as though its not getting the fuel it needs, when it dies it takes a couple pumps of the bulb to fill the carb again, so instinctively I thought fuel pump. So I replaced it and am still having the above problem.
There is one other symptom that I am still confused about though. We were having an issue of white smoke coming out of the exhaust on acceleration which we later found out was caused by the oil being overfull because we werent checking the oil level when the motor was perfectly level. This seems irrelevant, but we have been seeing oil residue on the water after the motor kills, and some residue on the motor dripping from the exhaust. It seems we can run the motor on muffs and not have any of these problems until the boat is under load. I am really hoping someone here can help me, I am at my wits end......
The only other thing I can think of at the moment is when I push the key for choke I dont hear a solenoid clicking, so is there a chance that the solenoid is stuck in the choked position?
