Hi & thanks in advance…

I’m looking at a boat with a 2001 Mercury Optimax 225, how reliable are these engines, anything that I should know to check for…and what’s the deference between the Saltwater and the Bluewater series.

Do not buy. The 2000 and 2001 optimaxs are timebombs. Mine blew up after few hours and very little support from Mercury. Have been doing research and have found many others with the same problem. I know this is late but it may help someone else.

I persnally hate Optimax's, but that's cause every now and then I have to touch one...I think they did have more issues back then compared to now....the one's I've dealt with seemed to be prone to 'carbon bridging' on the plugs(I believe they require at least platinum plugs, and go thru 'em).
