many thanks to the person who emailed a pic of the wiring harness, all problems fixed except the biggie. one more time and simply. at start up or after 2 hours of driving i have a 3,000 rpm max. 2999 good and motor sounds perfect, 3000 and its bouncing off a rev limiter. any way to test each of the 2 coils? new plugs, full of oil, all idiot lights blink on at start up then go away. any help is app.

Your engine thinks its in Neutral, hence the 3000rpm rev limit. I'm not sure where the switch is on the 140 but on my 70hp there is a microswitch located by where the throttle cable connects to the throttle arm. If that switch is bad it will think its in neutral and not allow the engine to rev past 3000rpm.

I have the same issue on a 2005 DF90. Rev limit switch has been replaced and still have the issue. Mine is in the shop and the mechanic has not been able to resolve the problem and Suzuki technical support is nowhere to be found.

There is more then one sensor that will limit the rpm to app 3000.

True, but the neutral switch is the only one that will set the rev limiter without any alarm or warning light.

try starting it with the engine not in neutral
that will tel you if the switch is bad

No it will not, because the control box has a neutral switch which will prevent the starter from engaging if it is in gear.

so why would the ECM think its in neutral?

what sensor/switch is telling the ECM that?

so witch neutral switch are you talking about?
there is one in the box and one on the engine?

Correct - there is one on the engine that is connected to the ECM, and one in the control box that the brown start wire passes through.
