Hi there,
I have recently acquired an nice 2001 225 4-stroke with 1200 hours.
Installed it on a skiff and did not install a racor. The motor ran very nice except maybe a tiny bit rough at idle.
After potentially getting some bad fuel and water ran through the motor the engine is not running on all cylinders. Idles rough and will not run up to any rpm past about 1500.

1.Pulled the plugs (they were new)Starboard were all clean and shiny as if they hadnt been used. or are washed. Port 3 were black and a bit sooty and obviously firing.

spark on all 6 checks out.

2.Compression is good on all 6. 140-150

3. drained the VST and replaced water separator filter.

I am wondering if and how i may have the 3 cylinders on the starboard side not recieving fuel or all 3 injectors plugged.??

Is there an inline filter on the high pressure line to that rail?

I am stumped. I am taking apart the VST and cleaning the screen this afternoon but would sure appreciate any help or suggestions.

clean the VST, replace the VST inlet filter, remove and send thge injectors to Flagship marine in punta gorda FL or check your yellow pages for an injector repair shop in your area.

Thanks Rodbolt,

I happened to have brought home 2 spare intakes and rail sets with injectors off a blown powerhead from a local mechanics shop.
I decided to replace the injectors and low and behold It runs smooth again.

I am installing a new Racor and am going to send the old injectors out to get rebuilt.

One question I have is how critical is it going to be to take the VST apart and replace/clean the screen and filter in there now that it is running good again.

Once I had the rails off I ran clean fuel through the system with the fuel pumps for about 2 or 3 litres before assembling with the new injectors.

Thanks:D
