2001 Yamaha VMax 3.1 power loss

I have lost power and not sure where to start. It sounds like it purring instead of a putt putt , hole shot is slow, and seems like its starving for fuel....I just cleaned the O2 sensor, and cleaned the fuel filter, and it now starts faster but still have the problem. To me it seems the boat is starving for fuel. any ideas??? thanks.

test spark and compression, test/replace the lift pumps. check fuel rail pressure,clean the VST filter.

Check low pressure fuel pumps.

I also have a 225 yamaha and it has plenty of power out of the hole but will lose power and RPM when at full speed. I will go from 62 miles per hour to about 48 to 49 miles per hour. Seems like maybe I would lose a complete cylinder.

start your own thread.
make sure you post the FULL model number as yamaha has made at least 9 versions of a 225 HP in 2.6l,3.1L and 3.3L.
only thing they share is the paint code.

It starts quick and just idles fine so I don't think its a compression problem. It did the samething 3 years ago to the month!! When I took it to get it fixed and he said.........thats the part I forget!! It has to be the pumps though. when I get home I'll replace those and see if that cures the issue. I have a 3.1 and the number is at home but your right about the models......you would think they would have at least change the paint design. thanks for the help!
