I have a 2002 50 HP Mercury which idles rough but
seems to run smooth above 2200 or so RPM's. I have replaced the spark plugs with no effect, and don't suspect spark plug wires or it would act up at higher RPM's. It has no throttle hesitation. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Re: 2002 50 HP Mercury rough idle

is this motor a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke? Did it suddenly start doing this or has it been like this since you had it? Does it always idle rough? Does it idle well when cold? Does it clean up after a good run only to start idling rough after you let it idle for a couple of minutes?
But it could be a carb adjustment, dirt in the idle circuit, problem with the bleed system to start off.

hope this helps

It is a 2 stroke. It starts easy but is rough from the gitgo. It runs smooth at top speed but will run rough as soon I slow down. Cold or hot it idles rough. I bought it used, and it has performed this way since I've owned it. Thank you for the response.

Could just be the idle adjustment on the carb(s). Have you set these up yet ?
