2002 50 HP Trim will not go down

I have a 2002 50 hp Johnson and the trim will not lower. When the switches(at the seat and on motor) all I hear is the relay clicking. The trim up works fine. This has happen once before, all I did was clean the battery post connections and that fixed it but it didn't help this time. Any help?

I would start by checking all the connections on the TNT for one being loose. Then I would check the limit switches and see if one is stuck/in-op. If that checks out then I would check to see where the problem is with someone holding the switch and checking the wiring with a test light.

Put 12v directly to the pump motor, see what happens.

Swap relays, if the up now fails, replace relay.

Does anyone know which is the down relay, the top or lower one? Does anyone know the part number and a location to purchase one?

unplugg one at a time, so try the top, if the trim up stops then thats the up trim relay.


but i agree with craig- swap and see if the problem moves

I think it is a pretty standard relay, bring it to an auto parts store and they can probably match it, Radio Shack even carries a few. Unless you want to pay lots more for OEM.
