I just bought a 2002 Honda bf30 tiller handle electric start. It starts and runs good. The top end is good about 23 mph on a 1648 welded jonboat. It starts out very slow. I have tried all of the hole settings and it did make some differance but still seems slow. What is going on?

What is the prop pitch, and what is the WOT RPM?

It appears to be the factory prop but someone else brought up that it might be that. I have ordered a tiny tack to check the RPMS. By WOT do you mean wide open?

Thanks for getting back with me.

WOT = Wide Open Throttle

Your pitch number will be stamped onto the prop somewhere. That engine isn't known for having much hole shot, but the top end speed is right there with every other 30. Soooo, I would think in terms of:

Too much load in the boat for the engine.

To high of a pitch

Sick engine
