We took a buddy's boat out yesterday and ran it in the inner coastal. After 20 minutes and being 15 miles from the dock, the portside motor cut out...it just cut out. It did not faulter or sputter, it just shut off. We turned around and headed back towards the dock, running about 2500rpms. After 30 minutes of running like this on the starboard motor, it cut out too, but then the portside motor started back up. It continued to do this every 30 minutes. when the motor cut out, and you turned the key off and then back on (FICTs go through some computer test I guess), the first three status lights on the tach (no oil, check engine and engine temp) would stay on and the motor would not even turn over. It was completely dead. After 30 minutes, one motor would cut out, the status lights would shut off and the engine would start up.
Has anybody seen this? To me, its sounds electrical. I run a yamaha, so know nothing about these engines. Are these engines connected together somehow? It just seemed completely odd that one engine would cut out and the other would be fine.
This is the 3rd time with this issue. After the first time, my buddy took it to the mechanic who said it was E10 issues. We pulled the separators and there was no water.
Also, he runs 4 batteries and we noticed that on the port side engine, the voltmeter was running about 19 (which seemed kind of high).
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Joe
