Just bought 2002 model because I was tired of replaceing powerpacks in my old 1972 125 HP Johnson. Just talked with a friend that has a 2000 model and he tells me his powerpack went out thirty days after he bought it. It was replaced under warranty. Does anyone know if this is going to be a problem with me? I bought this new motor so I could get 13 miles ofshore without fear of getting back. Should I still keep my 3 HP kicker under the bow to get me back home?

Ahoy, DJ.

Your Johnny 90 is as good a value as you will find in that power range.

No engine is perfect. Keep your kicker and get tow insurance. Be sure your VHF is in good order. These things are routine good sense regardless of your main power.

:)

Thanks for the reply J.B. I am signing up for Sea Tow. And I have a VHF and a CB radio on board, also a cell phone. Sea tow is so cheap I think if I am too far off shore and break down I will keep my little kicker under the bow and call them. Thanks ~DON~

How true on the two power packs. Brother and I made it back 13 miles on two cylinders. I made up my mind I am going to buy a spare power pack and keep it on board. Can't wait for the wind to lay here in VA. Even when it is from the south it is 15 to 20. The weather report says one thing ,but when you get on the water it's a differant story.I think they get their wind speed inside and airplane hanger or between two buildings. ~DON~
