Hi all, new here - we have a 2002 Johnson 90hp outboard - engine has a stalling problem - starts when it's cold, then it stalls within a half hour - then won't start until another day - thought maybe bad gas, swapped tanks - still dies - pull it out of the water, bring it back to the dealer - he swaps the fuel pump. put it back in the water - STILL doing it! Out of the water AGAIN, dealer is going to put old fuel pump back in. Heat wave coming again, and NO BOAT! Any ideas or suggestions appreciated! Thanks :)

Re: 2002 Johnson 90hp - stalling problem

More details: Engine starts stalling at 3/4 throttle, remains to run when throttle is backed off and eventually runs normally. Fifteen minutes later stalls out running at 3/4 throttle The prime ball is soft and the motor restarts after being primed. Run another 15 minutes the motor stalls out and doesn't restart. The prime ball is hard. Try choking a number of times Try waiting an hour and engine doesn't start. There's +-12 small drops of water in seperator reserve.

Do either of you have repair manual that covers this engine?

I catch your drift, we should have read the forum rules as well, and posted more detailed info-- I don't know that he has a manual - the thing is, it was repaired at the place it was bought, the oldest and most reputable dealer in our area. The engine is not far from new - They just replaced the fuel pump, and it did the exact same thing once out on the water again, and the shop said to bring it back they would credit him and put the old pump back on - Just thought someone here may have experience dealing with something like this and we could mention it to the shop - Just trying to get back out there, summer is short enough in New England! ;)
