2002 Lund Explorer 1675 SS Gas Cap/Tank Question

I recently purchased a used 2002 Lund Explorer 1675 SS. The gas cap for refilling is located on the port side of my boat. Right below the gas cap, about 3 inches down is a hole in the side of the boat . On my boat it appears that there is a plastic part, broken off. I am not sure what this hole is; what it is used for; or if there is an important part missing for this hole.

Can any one tell me what this is? Is it a vent for the gas tank? Is there some part that goes there?

There is no diagram of the boat that tells what this hole is.

Any help given here will be appreciated.!

There's a similar hole on our '08 Lund Fisherman. As you'll probably discover, it's the overflow for the gas tank. I need to be very careful when filling our tank. Best to fill slowly and with hand on nozzle to shut it off quickly when you hear fuel coming up the filler neck before it gushes out that hole. Yep, speaking from experience.

That's actually the vent for the fuel tank. My local Lund dealer refers to them as "dock locaters" and keep a good supply on hand. I've shucked mine off twice, both on the same dock. You kind of need it to keep water from getting into your tank.

Link has a picture of the vent: http://www.boatingstore.com/us/Kenn...el+vent&search_by=keyword&submitbutton=Search

Kennedy also stocks just the cover and retainer which is usually all you need. Click on the picture of the 90? vent and it is listed.

I was able to order the vent cap from iboats since I could not find a dealer with one.
This was for a Lund rebel

Yup, there they are. I didn't think of iboats, figured it was a dealer only item. Of course, I have a dealer just up the road from me.

I just rechecked Kennedy's website and the part numbers are the same so they're selling Attwoods too.

Thanks for the additional information. I assume that I only need the replacement cover. Based on the photos, it looks like the cap has broken off. The prior owner must have "located a dock" and broke it off. Now that I know that there is a part there in the hole, I will replace it.

Thanks again!

Good luck, bud. I've got a 2001 Explorer 1650 SS that I bought new. I really wanted a 1675 for the extra width but wasn't real sure I could get it in my garage and still have room for the Jeep. Dealer had a 1650 in stock and would have had to wait for the 1675 so I made the jump. Great boat.
