2002 Merc 150 optimax Died

Well we just bout a tritoon with this engine on it backed into the water fired right up let warm up, unloaded off trailer, idled over to dock, idled out to the edge of no wake zone opend it up and it fell flat on its face backed of throttle and idled fine, hit throttle fell on face. I let it try to rev and it just stumbled and reved the stumbled. then I let it idle and died. refired back up then died after that no fire again. I know imposible to diagnose but any ideas? Yes it had oil and fuel.

Well took it to repair shop this AM and fired right up

Latest update put back on water and it still cuts out at around 3000 rpm. The person selling is wanting to just give our money back, I am still wanting it if it can be fixed (Sure it can be, everything can be fixed!) The seller is a repair shop but does n have the program to diagnose thais particular year merc and I don't think he wants to deal with it anymore.

Classic stator however with the Optimax you have air injectors that can be tested with ohm meter and fuel injectors that can be flowed by shop that cleans injectors--Brucato! If you got a great deal this is a great fuel efficient powerful motor...while you need the computer program to go through the many systems it has, the stator can be checked by you average mechanic with a meter and peak voltage adapter...again if the price is right, keep it get some money back and take it to a Merc dealer..it is a good motor if it runs correctly...

I believe the opti has an altenator..
I would suspect a fuel delivery from the mechanical lift pump or the medium pressure fuel pump.
