2002 Mercruiser 4.3 MPI dies when running at 3500 RPMs Then runs fine at lower RPMs

Looks like it uses the same thermostats for 3 and 7 point drain systems.

Look behind the throttle body on the fuel rail. Should be a black cap screwed on the test fitting.

I don't think that is your problem. my 2003 305 runs at 175 as well. replace the water pump every 3 seasons always has run 175 since I owned it and when I contacted the place I bought it they said 175 is fine.

Same here..both engines usually run at 175. Even after I drop the RPMs to 3,000 (the temp stays the same). Thats why I dont think thats the reason why the computer is turning the engine off at 3500 RPMs under load.

Item 13 is the shrader valve, remove the cap item 14 and attach gauge

So, I guess I just have to remove the air filter to get to the shrader valve. See attached picture
