Hello all,
I just bought a boat and it has a 115 4 stroke with power trim that is tied to a 9.9 4 stroke via one of these - http://ww2.iboats.com/E-Z-Steer-Aux...40955518--session_id.327977807--view_id.38357
The 9.9 has its own remote for starting and throttle but no power trim. My question is can I run the boat with the the 115 and the 9.9 in the water at the same time without the 9.9 being on? The guy I bought the boat from said he would do this but would have the 9.9 running with the 115. I would rather not do that but I don't think having the 9.9 in the water in an off state with the prop spinning is a good idea.
Thanks

Interesting.
Let's see what the experts think.

My guess would be not to have both in the water while running. I would think the second one may affect steering in that it may act as a rudder of sorts, but I'm just guessing.

Can you manually tilt the 9.9?
How often will you use the 9.9? Do you really need it?
It may have been added to comply with a HP restriction on certain waterways. That, again, is my guess.

Thanks for the reply. I can tilt the 9.9 manually but that puts the connecting rod to the 115 at a bad angle and I think it will affect steering. The 9.9 would be used for trolling and HP restricted waterway like you stated.

The description of that connecting bar states that it doesn't need to be disconnected when tilting and each can be tilted individually.
If your motors can't tilt individually, as stated, perhaps it was set up wrong or it's the wrong model for your application.

So the steering system that was on there was a mess. I didn't even try and adjust or find out if it was the right system for the motors. I removed it and picked up one of these for $20 and after a little bending and cutting it works like a charm.
Thanks for the help all!

That's great!
Glad you got it worked out and it wasn't even expensive.
