2002 mercury 125

How are you guys doing ? Im new to the forum and looking for help for my teenage son.He has a 2002 mercury 125 on his 17ft center console he was out yesterday cruising at 3/4 throttle then the motor died and couldn't get it started .HE finally was able to get it home today and it started but it was rough and wouldn't stay running . he has spark on all 4 cylinders plugs are new fuel pressure seems fine but it doesn't want to run.Any help with this would be greatly appreciated cause i am lost and the kid is going crazy.Thank you

Do a compression test. Does the oil tank have oil in it? Did it overheat?

oil tank has oil i don't know if it overheated there was no warning buzzer or lights that i know of i will ask him.and for the compression we haven't gotten that far .Do you know what compression should be at? is there a way to check if it overheated? thanks for your help

Do the compression test I think you need around 120 psi for that motor.

Also look for water in the fuel.

Does he have a water-separating fuel filter in the fuel line? If not, he should!

im going to try starting it with a external tank and see what that gets me .i checked spark again and there is no power to coil pack 4
