Good evening all. I have an issue with my motor not wanting to go into reverse. I first noticed that the rod was broke on the inside of cowling. So I ordered the little plastic piece and ball that allows it to shift. Now it will go into reverse fine on the muffs, but when there is a load on it it does nothing but make a grinding noise?? Any help would be appreciated

You may need to adjust the cables. Or somebody pulled the shift out of the lower unit when the water pump was changed. Or when the shift rod linkage broke it the rod popped out of the lower. Or you have bad dog and gears kinda doubtful but it happens. The first one is easy to do the rest requir the lower unit to be dis assembled.
