does the lower unit drop down and come off with a simple removal of the bolts,or is there a shift linkage that needs to be removed.

I also am getting some water mixing in with the gear oil so how hard is it to change all the gaskets to stop this and what gaskets are there....thanks

If it's a two stroke, under the carb is where the shift linkage come through the coweling. If it's a electric start, remove the flame arrestor off the carb, remove the starter. You will see the saft. Remove the bolt from the side of the plastic retainer and slide the retainer to the side, slide the shaft off the little steel pin that runs through the shaft. I think there are 5 bolts on the foot. 2 on each side if the unit and one on the top holding the annode in place. The unit will then just slide down, may need a rubber hammer and tap it gently to get it loose. Replace the water pump and reassemble. The water in the oil....well. Have it pressure tested to find out what seal is leaking. Save time and money buying random seals. If it's a 4 stroke...well, I have no idea where to start.
