Looks like bad trailer switch (motor mounted trim switch). Also seems the trim switch on the throttle is going bad also. Can the switch alone be changed?

Doubt seriously both switches went out at the same time. Remove the larger blue and green wires from the trim solenoids and while holding one to ground, touch the other to power. Then switch wires. If the trim motor works both ways, replace solenoid. If not, replace motor.

Sorry failed to mention that both have been acting up for some time. Looks like the switches are sealed (potted) and probably the contacts within the switch are getting oxidized or failing some how. Strange but the raise portion of motor switch is fine, lower acting up. If I tap it really hard and fast it works, like a contact resistance issue. Raise contacts on throttle randomly not working but lower working fine. Got the wiring schematic so put 12vdc to coil lg and sb leads (individually simulating switch operating relay) on relay and it worked fine in both directions. Convinced myself it's not the motor or relay but the switches acting up.

Thanks for taking the time and responding though it helped.

Update for the record. File this on away to save money. The trim/tilt switch on the motor can be taken apart and the contacts cleaned. The contacts are plated, white metal maybe silver or nickel (Good Job Yamaha). It looks completely potted from the rear but un-clipping the rear cover, then the rubber boot then the white plastic contact cover you can get to the rocker arm and contacts. A little pencil eraser removing the oxidation on the plated contacts and it works like a champ, if that is the issue. Normally it's oxidation of the contact as opposed to a mechanical failure of the switch. Well built switch. Wish I knew this before buying a new one. Oh well you learn.
