I can't believe it took me this long to find this awesome resource. I have a lack ot power issue with my boat. Its a 226 cobalt and since I bought it last year there has always been a dead spot during acceleration. Its almost like it is running out of fuel. I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pumps, installed a new TPS(all of which tested bad). Everything has helped but problem still exists. Last night I cleaned the anti-siphon valve, looked okay and checked for broken flapper in exhaust.......my boat didn't have them anyway. I'm running out of options and hair. I still enjoy my boat but when I need the performance it isn't there. Please help me someone!!!

Re: 2002 volvo 5.7gsi power issues

It will eventually get to 4800 rpm but I have to feather the throttle and adjust the trim a little to get there. From an idle if you hammer down it will go but full throttle makes it bog, I have to pull back to about 75% and wait for the engine to "catch up". I don't expect it to me a dragster but I had a similiar boat with the same engine, drive, and props and it ran great. I'm 6'3" and 230 lbs and I guess I'm just being selfish but I'm tired of being drug longer than I have to get up on my ski. Back to your question......from about 3000 rpm it runs and accelerates prettty good.

Re: 2002 volvo 5.7gsi power issues

it is TBI and has 200 hours. I'm the third owner since 2002 and I think it spent lots of time sitting in the garage. I don't have the guages but there have been three "mechanics" check the pressures and say they are good. Last night I cleaned the little fine screens on the injectors, they were really black, so I'm going to put it in the water on Sat afternoon and see what happens.

there are several psi and vac tests from dockside idle to wot loaded tests-esp at hi psi test port-as don s says sounds fuel delivery related.psi tests can cut down on a lot of troubleshooting time-tbi love 29 to 30 psi w eng load-will run on less(seen 20psi) but shows up as lack of power or idle only running.good luck sat.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that while I was looking at the engine and hoping inspiration would start flowing, I bumped the connection for the high press pump........the spring clip was there but the plug could literally fall out. I cleaned the terminals, and grabbed a couple nylon ties to make sure the connection would remain good. I'm going to laugh out loud if that is it!!!!!

fingers x . ford calls it a wiggle test ie while eng is running grab and wiggle accessible conns and look for rpm drop or ck eng lite. this includes hi current cables at battery and all power grounds and sensor conns.

Well I don't know what I wiggled but something worked! It ran great! I could actually hear the injectors, or the vacuum, and the enigne working instead of trying to work. It must have been that connection, but I'm sure the other stuff didn't hurt. Thanks for all your help.
