Guys

Recently picked up a 17CC Mako with a 2003 115 Merc 4-Stroke. An opportunity to keep the boat in the water has arisen so I went about looking for the remote flush hookup. Well I'm still looking! I do not see one on this 4-Stroke.

Note Page 66 of the manual shows to thread a hose to the "rear fitting". I do NOT see this thread fitting on my motor.

Now my Buds 150 Yammy has one. My other Buds 60 Zuki has one. Yet not my Merc?

Am I missing something? Can I retrofit one?

Thanks!

Well Ill be! I checked the spot just now (with my glasses on!!!) and sure enough you right.

Mercury says (at least the little generic Operation Manual) it's OK to run the motor when on that flush point (they dont make note of using muffs at all). My Pal is of the opinion on his 150 Yammy 4-Stroke you do NOT run the motor when on the external flush point.

So what do you do?

LOL, that figures!

My Buds pressuring me to NOT run the motor when connected by anything other then the muffs. Sounds odd to go against the Merc Manual.

Flushing The Cooling System

This is out of my manual if it helps

Flush the internal water passages of the outboard with fresh water after
each use in salt, polluted, or muddy water. This will help prevent a buildup
of deposits from clogging the internal water passages.
IMPORTANT: The engine must be run during flushing in order to open the
thermostat and circulate water through the water passages.
NOTE: You can have the outboard tilted or in the vertical operating position
during flushing.
! WARNING
To avoid possible injury when flushing, remove the propeller. Refer to
Propeller Replacement.
1. Place the outboard in either the operating position (vertical) or in a
tilted position.
2. Remove propeller. Refer to Propeller Replacement.
3. Thread a water hose into the rear fitting. Partially open the water tap
(1/2 maximum). Do not open the water tap all the way, as this allows
a high‑pressure flow of water.
IMPORTANT: Do not run engine above idle when flushing.
4. Shift outboard into neutral. Start the engine and flush the cooling
system for at least 5 minutes. Keep engine speed at idle.
5. Stop the engine. Turn off the water and remove hose. Reinstall the
propeller.
