I am buying my buddies 2003 Rinker FV with a single 350 MAG MPI engine and bravo III drive. Compression tests showed all cylinders very strong. All other inspections showed the boat in like new condition. When we took it out for a sea trial she started fine and ran very smoothly in the channel. Once we exited the no-wake zone and gave her some gas she hesitated and wanted to shut down.
My mechanic changed the distributor cap as he said it had a crack in it and was a little rusty. He also put in all new spark plugs when doing the compression tests. He then changed the fuel filters and it is still doing the same thing. He told me this is a very complicated engine and that there is like 5 versions if this engine offered. He is bringing a friend of his in with a scanner to pinpoint the problem. Is this engine going to be very difficult for me to work on as a DIY-er? Any thoughts about this problem? Everything I read and that I have experienced leads me to fuel filters being clogged. But he said he changed it and it still does it.
