I just changed the water pump in my 2003 60 mercy 2 stoke and now I only have forward gear not even neutral. When I removed the lower unit I made sure the contrls wer in forward. The lower unit sat in my garage for two weeks waiting on the parts. I think may one of sons friends messed (turned) with the gear selector spline shaft. can I just lower the unit enough to seperate the shift shift coupler and turn the shaft in the unit back and forth to find the center of rotation then put my controls in neutral to get the proper position?
I figured it out. The selector shaft was way out of alignment.
