Hello everyone; I have a a fuel problem, I run out of fuel in the fuel pump.
Sounds easy huh? Not so; I have changed every fuel line, the two fuel filters on the motor and the 10mc. fuel filter after the tank. I have had the vst cleaned and replaced the vst pump, replaced the low pressure fuel pump, changed the thermostat, had the fuel injectors cleaned, switched to a remote tank and changed the bulb to a quicksilver one. I still run out of fuel at the low pressure fuel pump. You can hear it start to knock when it is low. It doesn't have any suction to pump fuel. Remember its brand spanking new. I also check the vents in the tank, the filler, the anti siphon valve was removed. I have to continually pump the ball to keep it running. ANYONE HAVE any ideas what to do next. I mean I just spent $2000. on this thing. OH yea, I just bought a new boat with a 115 yamaha. Now need to fix this up to sell to pay for repairs and boat payment.

sounds like you have covered most of the basics. since you tried a remote tank, you either have a bad fuel pump, just because its new does not mean its good, or you have a air leak in the lines or fuel connector. Having to pump the bulb to keep it running tell me something you already checked is still the problem, bad fuel pump, line that is calapsing, or fuel pump actuation problem. Not sure on that engine what operates the fuel pump, but that could also be the problem.

Is there a connection between the ball and the pump?Any quick connect can suck air.J

I have never heard a mechanical pump knock but the high pressure one will chatter/knock from aeration when fuel gets low. What happens when you pump bulb will it pick back up? If so its the low pressure mechanical pump or air leak for sure. Take your fuel line fitting off and attach it directly to fuel pump inlet and retest.

OK, I got my boat back today and took it out on testing. Man does it run good, I would never believe that the problem was the IAC valve covered in carbon. They cleaned it all up and now it doesn't stall for lack of fuel and when throttling down to N it doesn't die. Just flies, if it had run like this before I gave up on finding a cure I wouldn't be selling it.

What is a IAC valve and is it something a shade-tree mechanic can work on? I am having a similar problem and I am desperate to fix it!

IAC is intake air control. Yep, they go in and come out much like most of the mercury parts. Look on the engine diagram for IAC and it will tell you where it is at on your motor.

Its on the intake manifold side of engine, must have been dirt as no exhaust goes thru it...
