Posted this on a few other forums that I frequent, but they are more revolved around big HP offshore rigs so I still have an issue...I think.
Bought neighbors 2003 pontoon last year. During the test drive it was everything you could do to shift and run the throttle. Figured it needed cables.
I winterized and stored. This spring I pulled the cables and shifter off the helm.
Throttle linkage on motor seemed free as can be. With both cables unhooked, smooth as silk and easy to shift or throttle:)
I still pulled the controlled inspected and lightly lubed everything up.
Took cables right off the boat thinking I would get part #s and order, but...off they just slide as nice and easy as I imagine brand new ones might...
I lightly lubed up the throttle on motor and a little white grease on the slide mechanism for the shifter.
After a few replies from others, I re-routed the cables upon re-installing them in order to keep as bend free and biggest widest curves I could.
Boat has low hours so I began wondering about lower unit and the actual shifting there.
I changed gear lube this spring just in case that may have been an issue.
It acts much better now, but still not as easy as what I have gotten used to with i/os and expected.
I have only ran around our lake once this spring and am wondering if some more use will help free things up or if I am just not setting something up right or missing something entirely...
I have adjusted the shift cable end a little to eliminate "pre-load" while it is in neutral. Everything functions OK, shifts into neutral, forward, and reverse OK throttle does good, just takes more muscle than it should.
Cables were Teleflex, guessing original to boat.
Adjusting how the shift cable enters the motor enclosure seemed to help some, like lessening "side load" ...
Just wondering if there are any other issues I may not have caught onto...
VERY much appreciate it !!!!
